I think the problem is still more “hypothetical”. If automation REALLY takes off and millions of jobs are replaced by robots (without enough new types of jobs being created) then unemployment could be a real issue.

If nothing else it causes a serious “political” issue. If enough people begin to lose hope about their economic prospects they may grab onto any lifeboat they can and vote in a president who is dangerously unqualified for the job. That is as political as I’ll get, lol.
