It is in the traditional sense of “net worth” as you know have an asset that has the potential to increase in value and you paying off a liability every month (mortgage.) You just don’t want it to crowd out more “accessible” investing stocks, rentals etc…

I only say “First step” because if we are being honest, the vast majority of people are going to prioritize buying a home before getting excited about investing. Owning a home will always have more emotional weight than owning stocks. I’ve come to accept that fact but gear people towards making sure they get in at the right price and once they do, their sole focus should be on diversifying into more profitable assets.

Long story short, I agree it’s not the most rational place to start but people are the furthest thing from rational.
